Tokyo’s 13 BEST Cherry Blossom Spots Ranked

From Overrated Chaos to Hidden Gems

Cherry blossom season in Tokyo is supposed to be magical.

Soft petals.
Peaceful parks.
Perfect photos.

But after visiting 13 different spots across the city

I realized something:

Not all cherry blossom spots are created equal.

Some are unforgettable.
Some are overrated.
And one… completely surprised me.

Here’s my full ranking — from worst to best.

#13 – Ueno Park

Ueno Park

“I Hated It”

This might be Tokyo’s most famous cherry blossom spot.

And honestly?

I hated it.

Over 1,000 cherry trees — but you’ll barely see them through:

  • Massive crowds

  • Picnic tarps everywhere

  • Phones in the air

🌸 Cherry Blossoms: Beautiful (if visible)
🎥 Vibe: Chaos
🚶 Experience: 10/10 madness

Proof that famous doesn’t mean best.

#12 – Inokashira Park

Inokashira Park

“Looks Better Online”

Instagram sells this as a dream.

In reality?

It’s… fine.

The lake and swan boats are cool, but it doesn’t hit like you expect.

🌸 Cherry Blossoms: Pretty
🎥 Vibe: Chill, local
🚶 Experience: Moderate crowds

Worth it — just not magical.

#11 – Yanaka Cemetery

Yanaka Cemetery

“Quiet and Reflective”

A completely different experience.

Historic graves.
Wide paths.
Cherry blossoms falling around you.

🌸 Cherry Blossoms: Soft + atmospheric
🎥 Vibe: Peaceful, reflective
🚶 Experience: Almost empty

Not for photos — for feeling something.

#10 – Asukayama Park

Asukayama Park

“Cherry Blossom Hill”

One of Tokyo’s oldest parks.

Built for the people — not tourists.

🌸 Cherry Blossoms: Classic hillside views
🎥 Vibe: Local, nostalgic
🚶 Experience: Mostly locals

Great… but a bit out of the way.

#9 – Chidorigafuchi Greenway

Chidorigafuchi Greenway

“Romantic… But Loud”

This is the postcard spot.

Cherry blossoms over water.
Boats under petals.

But…

Traffic noise kills the vibe.

🌸 Cherry Blossoms: Stunning
🎥 Vibe: Romantic (with noise)
🚶 Experience: Crowded

Beautiful — not peaceful.

#8 – Kabukichō

Kabukichō

“The Wildest Contrast”

Two cherry blossom trees.

That’s it.

But they sit under neon lights in Tokyo’s craziest nightlife district.

🌸 Cherry Blossoms: Minimal
🎥 Vibe: Electric
🚶 Experience: Constant chaos

Not about quantity — about contrast.

#7 – Shinjuku Gyoen

Shinjuku Gyoen

“The Classic”

This is what people picture.

Wide lawns.
Massive trees.
Perfect setups.

🌸 Cherry Blossoms: Elite
🎥 Vibe: Clean + organized
🚶 Experience: Busy but manageable

Safe choice — always delivers.

#6 – Yoyogi Park

Yoyogi Park

“Cherry Blossom Party”

This isn’t peaceful.

It’s a festival.

Music.
Drinks.
Groups everywhere.

🌸 Cherry Blossoms: Good
🎥 Vibe: Party
🚶 Experience: Loud + packed

If you want energy — this is it.

#5 – Aoyama Cemetery

Aoyama Cemetery

“Unexpectedly Beautiful”

Cherry blossoms… in a cemetery.

Sounds strange.

Feels incredible.

🌸 Cherry Blossoms: Tall, mature
🎥 Vibe: Emotional, quiet
🚶 Experience: Empty

One of the most unique spots in Tokyo.

#4 – Koishikawa Korakuen Garden

Koishikawa Korakuen Garden

“Hidden Traditional Garden”

A perfectly designed Edo-period garden.

Feels like stepping back in time.

🌸 Cherry Blossoms: Refined
🎥 Vibe: Calm, cinematic
🚶 Experience: Relaxed

A true hidden gem.

#3 – Sumida Park

Sumida Park

“Best Skyline View”

Cherry blossoms + Tokyo Skytree.

Traditional + futuristic.

🌸 Cherry Blossoms: Strong
🎥 Vibe: Iconic Tokyo
🚶 Experience: Spacious

Best photo composition in the city.

#2 – Nakameguro

Nakameguro

“Cherry Blossoms After Dark”

By day — nice.

At night — insane.

Lanterns.
Reflections.
Street food.

🌸 Cherry Blossoms: Beautiful lighting
🎥 Vibe: Electric + romantic
🚶 Experience: Shoulder-to-shoulder

Not peaceful — but unforgettable.

#1 – Kuhonbutsu River Greenway

Kuhonbutsu River Greenway

“Tokyo’s Secret Little Europe”

This was the surprise.

No crowds.
Endless benches.
Cafés everywhere.

You can actually…

Sit.
Relax.
Enjoy the moment.

🌸 Cherry Blossoms: Soft + endless
🎥 Vibe: Calm, European feel
🚶 Experience: Empty

The only place that actually felt like spring.

🍰 Bonus: Best Cherry Blossom Dessert in Tokyo

One of the best surprises wasn’t a park.

It was a tiny café in Koenji:

HALU GIORNALE

Hidden.
Quiet.
Easy to miss.

Inside:

  • Sakura-themed desserts

  • Soft pastel design

  • Incredible attention to detail

The dish?

Looked almost too perfect to eat — with an actual cherry blossom on top.

This place isn’t famous yet… but it should be.

Final Thoughts

Tokyo cherry blossom season isn’t just about:

✔️ Finding the best trees
✔️ Getting the perfect photo

It’s about finding the right feeling.

Sometimes that’s chaos.
Sometimes it’s silence.

And sometimes…

It’s just a quiet bench under a tree.
