Son Doong Day 4 – Jungle Inside the World’s Largest Cave?! Vietnam

Waking up in Son Doong Cave is like waking up on another planet. There’s no sunrise, no birdsong—just the sound of tents unzipping, gear shuffling, and the quiet drip of water echoing through a cavern bigger than most city blocks. Today’s goal? Reach the Garden of Edam and make it to our final underground campsite—Doline 2.

🧗‍♂️ The Climb Begins

Son Doong Cave Day 4

We hit the trail by 9:00 AM, and it didn’t take long before we were climbing again—boulders, ropes, narrow ledges, and slippery rock faces. The terrain was steep and technical, but every turn revealed more of the cave’s immense beauty.

The James Bond Photo Spot

James Bond Photo Spot, Son Doong Cave

We arrived at a unique rock formation affectionately nicknamed the “James Bond Photo Spot.” Why? Because it looks exactly like the iconic gun barrel opening from the 007 films — a circular cutout in the cave wall, perfectly symmetrical, with the trail leading straight through its center.

It’s a natural limestone formation, but the alignment and shape are eerily cinematic. Our guides had us pose for photos like we were secret agents — finger guns and all. It was one of those random, perfect intersections of nature and pop culture.

🍰 The Wedding Cake and Photo Breaks

Midway through the hike, we reached a famous formation called the Wedding Cake—a terraced rock cascade that looks like it belongs on a fantasy movie set. We caught our breath, snapped photos, and prepped for what lay ahead.

🥗 Lunch With a View

Son Doong Cave Day 4

By noon, we hit one of the most scenic lunch spots in the entire cave system—perched above terraced rock pools, looking out over misty cliffs and mossy walls. Fried rice, hard-boiled eggs, and Oreos might sound simple, but with this view, it felt like a five-star meal.

🌴 Into the Garden of Edam

And then came the moment: we stepped into the Garden of Edam. A jungle. Inside a cave. Trees stretched toward light spilling in from an ancient skylight above. Ferns brushed our knees. The air turned humid. It felt like the cave had cracked open and let in a lost world.

🏕 Arrival at Doline 2

Son Doong Cave Day 4

By late afternoon, we reached our final campsite inside Son Doong—Doline 2. Perched beneath the Garden’s skylight, our site had everything: a view into the heavens, kitchen setup, dining area, tents, and even a surprise—swimming.

🏊‍♂️ The Surprise Swim

Son Doong Cave Day 4 Swim

Most groups don’t get to swim on Day 4, but we arrived early and the rains had filled the pools. Slipping into cool cave water after six hours of climbing was the perfect reward.

🍲 Dinner, Campfire, and Reflections

Son Doong Cave Day 4 Dinner

Dinner was served hot—rice, stir-fried tofu, French fries, chicken, and soup. We sat around the fire, laughing, joking, and soaking in the moment. This was our last night sleeping underground. Tomorrow, we face the final challenge: The Great Wall of Vietnam.
